Welcome to the Flying Start Federation which comprises of two small village primary schools, Parkham and Buckland Brewer. The Federation, was officially formed in January 2012 and has a single Governing Body of twelve local people plus the Executive Headteacher.
The Federation provides excellent opportunities for teachers and other staff to develop their professional expertise which directly impacts on the quality of teaching and learning for the children. Staff are able to share their best practice within a professional learning community developing an exciting and purposeful curriculum for all our children.
All of our work and development is driven by making each of our schools exciting, vibrant, inclusive learning organisations which always put children first.
At the Flying Start Federation we treat the Safeguarding of children as a priority. If you have any concerns about the safety of any child please speak to one of the adults responsible for Safeguarding

A pupil from Buckland Brewer won The Arts Society North Devon Young Artist Award which comprised of a certificate and a £15 book token and Years 1 and 2 won The Arts Society North Devon certificate of Merit for specific units if work “Portraits of Ourselves”. This star pupil and her family attended a lovely presentation at the Burton Art Gallery in front of quite a few people visiting the exhibition at the time.
It was a GLORIOUS day at Croyde for the Oceanfest event on 21st June.
Years 4 and 5 at Buckland Brewer, researched an animal and had to draw a life-size version on the playground, by measuring in m and cm. They worked brilliantly in their teams. I was unable to take a photo of the blue whale as it took up the whole playground!
We were lucky to have 2 days of 'Ancient Art Falconry' in Eagle class. The children learnt about birds of prey, food, falconry and dissected barn owl pellets.
